EAP 3rd visit of Burrville Elementary School to SQCC

Friday, December 7, 2018

The Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center hosted a class of fifth graders from Burrville Elementary School as part of the Embassy Adoption Program, a collaborative project between Washington Performing Arts and D.C. Public Schools for a third visit on 7 December. Students experienced a presentation on the Omani frankincense burner (majmar). Students learned about frankincense, its uses, where it grows in Oman, how it is harvested and its historical significance.

Next, students painted replica majmars, delighted in designing, comparing, and crafting their own decorative frankincense burners. Some students also wrote their names in Arabic on the boxes of their majmars. Students took home their personalized frankincense burners after completing the activity.
